Last Chance to Order ABFFE's FREADOM Gift Card
June 27, 2007
The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression has extended the deadline
for ordering its new FREADOM Book Sense gift card to July 9.
"We
must go on press with the cards on July 10 in order to send them to booksellers
in time for Banned Books Week," said ABFFE President Chris Finan. Banned
Books Week is September 29 - October 6.
Finan noted that the FREADOM card is an easy way for booksellers to support
free expression. ABFFE provides the cards for free -- covering the cost of the
card, the matching presenter, and the 50 cents per card transaction fee -- in
return for a donation of 10 percent of the gift card sale. The American Booksellers
Association handles the accounting -- tracking the sale of the cards, deducting
the donation, and transferring the funds to ABFFE at a specific date in 2008.
The FREADOM card is offered in conjunction with ABA's Book
Sense Gift Card Program, and all other program fees apply. Booksellers who
wish to add their logo will need to pay for imprinting. Shipping and handling
fees also apply.
The FREADOM card was very popular with customers in a test run last year. Twenty
booksellers sold 3,000 cards, raising $9,000 for ABFFE. The card features the
FREADOM logo and a Roger Roth illustration of the Statue of Liberty reading
a book, from The American Story: 100 True Tales From American History,
courtesy of Random House Children's Books.
To order the FREADOM card, e-mail ABA Marketing Director Jill Perlstein at
