Read Banned Books! ABA and ABFFE Release "The Freadom List"

September 13, 2007

Banned Books Week begins on Saturday, September 29, and the American Booksellers Association and the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE) have collaborated to produce "The Freadom List," a selection of titles for children and adults that have been most frequently challenged or banned.

The list -- 24 titles, ranging from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Bluest Eye to The Perks of Being a Wallflower -- includes full bibliographic information and, in many cases, quotes about the titles from independent booksellers in the Book Sense program. The list also features a "First Amendment Bookshelf," a selection of 17 important recent and backlist titles about free speech and free expression.

"The Freadom List" is available in a full-color PDF file on BookWeb.org, and the full First Amendment Bookshelf is available, with other Banned Books Week materials and information, at www.abffe.org.
