Booksellers Summoned in Lawsuit Urged to Take Action

May 01, 2008

This week, several bookstore members of the American Booksellers Association received a summons in a civil action brought by Rev. Herman Douglas, Sr., against Rev. Joel Osteen, his publisher, distributors, and retailers.

It is essential that booksellers do not ignore any summonses, subpoenas, or other documents that they receive from Rev. Douglas or anyone purporting to represent him. Any member who receives a summons or other documents related to this case is advised either to report it to ABA's industry consultant, David Walker, at davidw@bookweb.org with a copy to info@bookweb.org, or to contact their own attorney and to alert Walker that they have received the summons.

Walker can also be reached at (800) 637-0037, ext. 6612.
