At the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting in Boston this past weekend, Newmarket Press, the publisher of Book Sense Best Books: 125 Favorite Books Recommended by Independent Booksellers, offered attendees a chance to win a Book Sense gift basket. The winner was New Jersey City University education services librarian Sheila Kirven. In addition to 15 copies of Book Sense Best Books for the library and reading groups, the basket, which was put together with the help of Book Sense marketing director Mark Nichols, included all 25 Best Books of the First Five Years of Book Sense. Newmarket Press publicity director Harry Burton presented the prize to the winner.
Newmarket Press and Book Sense partnered to create Book Sense Best Books to mark the fifth anniversary of the Book Sense program. Since its publication, the book, which features titles from the Book Sense 76 lists of the first five years of Book Sense, has become a great resource for reading groups, been offered as a premium during National Public Radio pledge drives, and, of course, helped independent booksellers sell more books.
Booksellers interested in working with their local media to discuss Book Sense Best Books should contact Burton at hburton@newmarketpress.com or (212) 832-3575.
Orders for Book Sense Best Books should be placed through Newmarket's distributor, W.W. Norton at (800) 233-4830.
